Tiramisu

Tiramisu is a classic Italian dessert that is made with ladyfingers, coffee, and a creamy filling. Here's a recipe to make tiramisu at home:

Ingredients:

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cups mascarpone cheese
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups strong brewed coffee or espresso
  • 1/2 cup coffee liqueur
  • 24-30 ladyfingers
  • Cocoa powder, for dusting

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until the mixture is pale and creamy.

  2. In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it begins to simmer.

  3. Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to combine.

  4. Transfer the mixture back into the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon.

  5. Remove the pan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.

  6. In a separate bowl, beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.

  7. In another bowl, beat the mascarpone cheese, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.

  8. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture.

  9. In a shallow dish, combine the brewed coffee or espresso and coffee liqueur.

  10. Dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, then arrange them in a single layer in a 9x13-inch baking dish.

  11. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers, then repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.

  12. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight.

  13. Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder.
