Roast dinner

A roast dinner

A roast dinner is a classic and hearty meal that is popular around the world, particularly in the UK and US. It usually consists of a roasted meat, such as beef, pork, or chicken, along with roasted vegetables, potatoes, and gravy. Here's a recipe for a basic roast dinner:

Ingredients:

  • 1 (3-4 pound) beef, pork or chicken roast
  • 6-8 large potatoes, peeled and chopped into chunks
  • 4-6 large carrots, peeled and chopped into chunks
  • 1 large onion, peeled and chopped into chunks
  • 2-3 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups beef or chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Rub the meat with olive oil and season with salt and black pepper.

  3. Place the meat in a roasting pan or baking dish, and roast in the oven for about 1-1.5 hours, or until it's cooked to your desired level of doneness.

  4. While the meat is cooking, prepare the vegetables. Toss the potatoes, carrots, and onions with olive oil, salt, and pepper.

  5. After the meat has been cooking for about 45 minutes, add the vegetables to the pan, and roast for an additional 30-45 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender and browned.

  6. Once the meat and vegetables are cooked, remove them from the roasting pan and let them rest for about 10-15 minutes before slicing the meat.

  7. To make the gravy, pour the remaining juices from the roasting pan into a small saucepan.

  8. Whisk in the flour, then gradually whisk in the beef or chicken broth.

  9. Bring the mixture to a simmer, and cook for about 5-10 minutes, or until the gravy has thickened.

  10. Slice the meat and serve it alongside the roasted vegetables, with the gravy on the side.

Enjoy your delicious and hearty roast dinner!
