Hwe is a Korean dish made with thinly sliced raw fish and vegetables. Here's a recipe for hwe:
Ingredients:
- 1 lb of fresh, sashimi-grade fish (such as tuna, salmon, or snapper)
- 1 small pear, grated
- 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon of sesame seeds, toasted
- Assorted vegetables, such as cucumber, radish, carrot, and lettuce
Instructions:
- Rinse the fish and pat it dry with paper towels. Slice it thinly and arrange it on a platter.
- Grate the pear and mix it with the soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, sugar, gochujang, and garlic to make the marinade.
- Pour the marinade over the fish and toss gently to coat. Cover the platter with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours.
- Prepare the vegetables by washing and slicing them into thin strips or bite-sized pieces.
- Arrange the vegetables around the fish on the platter.
- Sprinkle the toasted sesame seeds over the top of the fish and vegetables.
- Serve immediately, with rice on the side if desired.
Enjoy your delicious and healthy hwe!
