French fries

French fries

French fries, also known as chips or frites, are a beloved side dish and snack all around the world. Here is a recipe for making crispy, delicious French fries at home:

Ingredients:

  • 4 large potatoes (russet or Idaho work well)
  • 3 cups vegetable oil or canola oil
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Scrub the potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt or debris.

  2. Cut the potatoes into uniform thin slices, about 1/4 inch thick. You can also use a mandoline or a French fry cutter for this.

  3. Soak the potato slices in a bowl of cold water for 30 minutes. This will help to remove excess starch and make the fries crispier.

  4. Drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean towel or paper towels.

  5. Heat the oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 325°F (165°C).

  6. Carefully add the potatoes to the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry for 5-6 minutes or until lightly golden brown.

  7. Remove the fries from the oil using a slotted spoon or spider strainer and place them on a wire rack or a plate lined with paper towels to drain.

  8. Increase the oil temperature to 375°F (190°C).

  9. Add the par-fried potatoes back into the oil in batches, and fry for an additional 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  10. Remove the fries from the oil and place them back onto the wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain.

  11. Sprinkle with salt to taste and serve immediately.
